Sylvia Robinson started recording music for Columbia Records under the billing, Little Sylvia. She learned to play guitar from Mickey Baker, and they teamed up to record Bo Diddley and Love is Strange. When she moved to New Jersey, Sylvia and her husband founded the label "All Platinum Records". Their first hit was "I won't Do Anything" by Lezli Valentine, and a couple years later their biggest hit "Love on a Two-Way Street" hit the market. Sylvia continued writing music throughout her career for Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, Moby, etc. Her later acts would include Angie B, and The Sequence.
Sylvia Robinson's contribution to hip-hop has been so extensive, she is known as the mother of hip-hop.
