TLDR

Brooks Nader, long associated with barely there bikinis, says filming the new “Baywatch” has converted her into a one-piece devotee after a run of very public wardrobe malfunctions.

Bare midriff used to be Brooks Nader’s calling card. Now the Sports Illustrated cover star is quietly rewriting her swim story, and the shift is happening in the unmistakable red glow of a “Baywatch” reboot.

In a new interview recorded during Miami Swim Week, Nader revealed that stepping into the iconic lifeguard lane has changed how she wants to show up on the sand. “I am 100% into one-pieces,” she told Page Six Style, a surprising confession from a woman who built a career in string bikinis and plunging cutouts.

The comment hits differently when you look at Nader’s recent style reel. At the Fox Upfronts, where she was promoting “Baywatch”, her little red dress chose the worst possible moment to fail. Nader recalled riding to the event, excited and fresh from a big meal, when the zipper gave out as she stepped out of the car. Her whole dress popped open. A Fox staffer scrambled to sew her into the ripped mini so she could still walk the carpet.

The drama did not end there. “When I got home later that night, I had to have my neighbor cut me out with scissors,” she admitted. It is the kind of backstage visual that lingers, even for a model accustomed to quick changes and fashion tape.

Days later in Miami, history tried to repeat itself. Nader hit the ocean in a fiery red look and wound up with another malfunction, this time with family as the live audience. “My family group chat was blowing up about our moment in the ocean yesterday because my top broke,” she said. “They were like, ‘Why are you always suffering from a wardrobe malfunction? You are always suffering.’ And I was like, ‘Cause why not?'”

The answer, at least for now, seems to be more coverage and more control. Nader name-checked sustainable label Tropic of C as a current favorite, a brand known for sculpted one-pieces that still read high-glamour. It is a subtle pivot from tiny ties to strong seams, in step with a woman moving from swim catalog pages to scripted close-ups.

There is symbolism in that “Baywatch” suit. The original series stamped red one-pieces into pop culture, and every new reboot cast member inherits that costume, along with the expectations that come with it. For Nader, choosing sleeker maillots off duty suggests she is thinking about longevity, not just the next viral beach shot.

Wardrobe mishaps can turn into headline bait. They can also push a star to tighten the visuals around her public image. As Nader leans into acting, her move from string bikinis to powerful one-pieces reads less like retreat and more like a new chapter, one where she still owns the surf but on her own terms.

Do you see Nader’s turn toward one-piece swimsuits as a practical response to wardrobe stress, a savvy image reset for her “Baywatch” era, or both?
