TLDR

Luka Doncic says he has ended his engagement to longtime partner Anamaria Goltes as she files a U.S. petition for child support for their two daughters, pulling their once storybook romance into family court.

The transatlantic love story that followed Luka Doncic from Slovenia to NBA superstardom now has a new setting. It is no longer the red carpet or courtside seats in Los Angeles, but the quiet language of legal petitions and custody schedules.

From Proposal to Petition

According to TMZ Sports, court documents state that Anamaria Goltes has filed a petition for child support in a U.S. court on behalf of the former couple’s two minor daughters. The filing asks for child support and attorney fees. It does not request custody orders.

The petition notes that Goltes moved back to Slovenia in May of last year and that both girls have remained with her there. Their younger daughter was born in December 2025, so the family has been split between continents for much of the children’s lives.

Doncic and Goltes began dating in 2016, long before he became one of basketball’s brightest stars. She was a familiar presence during his years with the Dallas Mavericks, appearing at games and events as his profile grew. In July 2023, he proposed, turning their long romance into an engagement fans assumed would end in a wedding.

Their first daughter, Gabriela, arrived in November 2023. Their second, Olivia, was born in December 2025, with Doncic flying to Slovenia for the birth despite the demands of an NBA season. The images of the Lakers guard cradling his newborns helped cement his public identity as a devoted young father.

Lakers Stardom Meets Family Distance

Behind that soft-focus image, distance and logistics were clearly building. TMZ reports that the relationship took a serious turn in December, when a disagreement over bringing their newborn to the United States led Goltes to call the police. According to the outlet, officials did not find any criminal offense.

In a conversation with ESPN, Doncic confirmed that the engagement is over and framed his choice in terms of fatherhood. “I love my daughters more than anything and I have been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that has not been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement,” he said.

He added, “Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness, and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can.” TMZ also notes that Doncic said he had no idea Goltes had filed the new court petition.

As of the latest reporting, Goltes has not spoken publicly about the filing. TMZ says outreach to both sides has not yet been answered, leaving fans to read between the lines of court paperwork and carefully worded statements instead of Instagram captions.

What the Court Filing Seeks

The petition itself is narrow. It does not ask an American judge to rule on where the girls live. It focuses on child support and legal costs, which could provide a formal framework for a family that now exists between Los Angeles and Slovenia.

Family law attorneys often note that child support cases, especially involving international couples, can be as much about clarity as conflict. TMZ reports that the documents do not spell out why Goltes chose to file now, and there is no allegation of criminal behavior tied to the request.

For Doncic, the timing is delicate. He is carrying the expectations that come with a Los Angeles Lakers jersey while trying to project the image of a grounded, present father. For Goltes, a largely private figure, the filing is a reminder that the woman behind the superstar is also a mother managing two small children far from the league that defines his life.

Their story began as a young European romance and evolved into a global brand couple. It now enters a more complicated chapter, written in legal language and shaped by flight schedules, school years, and two little girls caught between two worlds.

When careers, countries, and children all collide, how do you think high-profile parents can protect their kids’ stability while still pursuing the lives they have built?
