First, she shattered royal traditions. Then, she shook up Hollywood. And now? Meghan Markle's latest confession has left even her most loyal fans gasping — did the Duchess of Sussex really dabble in mushrooms while pregnant? Not exactly the royal-approved prenatal plan you'd expect... but this isn't your typical duchess story.
Her 'Hippy-Dippy' Habits
On the latest episode of her podcast "Confessions of a Female Founder," Meghan pulled back the curtain on her most unconventional pregnancy secrets. Speaking with "Clevr Blends" founder Hannah Mendoza, the duchess revealed she sought guidance from an Ayurvedic doctor during both her pregnancies — a holistic approach rooted in ancient Indian medicine, according to PEOPLE.
And at the heart of this wellness regimen? Adaptogens. Including — you guessed it — mushrooms.
"I think a lot of people, when they hear mushrooms, they go, 'OK, she's talking about being hippie-dippy, grounded in all these things,'" The Independent reported Meghan said, laughing off the typical assumptions that come with the word "mushrooms."
But this wasn't about chasing a psychedelic high. It was about balance, nourishment, and what she calls seeing "food as medicine," as reported by PEOPLE.
What Exactly Did She Take?
Meghan wasn't microdosing magic mushrooms or dabbling in forbidden realms. The duchess turned to adaptogenic mushrooms like reishi, lion's mane, and chaga — known for their calming, immune-boosting, and stress-reducing properties.
" ... Somehow you say mushrooms, and now people have a connotation attached to it. But it's really just a food trend that I believe you were far ahead of in terms of saying, 'Hold on, these have properties that can in some way make you feel differently in a really safe way'," she explained, according to the Independent.
And that's not all. Meghan revealed she first discovered "Clevr Blends" while pregnant with Princess Lilibet. A friend delivered a basket of wellness goodies, including a turmeric latte mix. "And I said, 'A turmeric latte, you just add water? Okay,'" PEOPLE reported Meghan recalled.
And just like that, she was hooked.
An Unusual Royal Pregnancy
From Sanskrit songs playing in the delivery room to whispering loving words into her newborn's ears — as advised by her Ayurvedic doctor — Meghan's approach to motherhood was anything but ordinary.
Prince Harry even shared in his memoir "Spare" how deeply these rituals influenced them during Archie's birth. And while Meghan embraced this ancient wisdom, she also faced relentless public scrutiny.
" ... There's a flip side to that coin," she said, according to the Daily Mail. " ... It's a microscope that a lot of people don't have to experience."
And What About the Baby?
If you're wondering whether all this paid off — just look at Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet today. Vibrant, joyful, and by all accounts, thriving under Meghan and Harry's mindful parenting style.
While the royal world may have clutched its pearls at the word "mushrooms," Meghan seems entirely at peace with her decisions. " ... These items and ingredients that have been part of our natural ecosystem and dietary system for a long time, whether acknowledged or not... ," she said, as the Daily Mail reported.
And in true Meghan fashion, she's turned that passion into a business venture, investing in wellness brands like "Clevr Blends" and launching her own lifestyle line "As Ever," which famously sold out in just 45 minutes.
So... Did She or Didn't She?
Yes, Meghan Markle consumed mushrooms while pregnant. But before anyone gasps — these weren't the trippy kind. They were wellness mushrooms, part of a holistic approach to reduce stress and promote health for both mother and baby.
And judging by the happiness radiating from the Sussex family? Maybe she was onto something all along.
