For millions of viewers, Savannah Guthrie is the steady presence who eases them into the day on “Today.” In Tucson, her family is now living through a long night, as federal agents chase down thousands of leads in the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy.

TLDR

The FBI has doubled its reward to $100,000 and released a detailed description of the suspect seen on Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell camera, while more than 13,000 public tips have driven an intensive search in Tucson.

A Mother Vanishes in Tucson

According to authorities, Nancy Guthrie was last seen at the end of January, after a family dinner in Tucson with her daughter Annie and son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni. Investigators say Cioni was the last person known to have seen Nancy when he dropped her at home that night.

What happened after that quiet drop-off has become the focus of an expanding federal and local search. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has spent days combing Nancy’s neighborhood, as well as the area around Annie’s home in Tucson, looking for any trace of the missing grandmother.

A key development came when a black glove was discovered on a dirt path near Nancy’s house. The Post was first to report the glove’s discovery, which immediately raised questions about whether it might be connected to the disappearance. Officials have kept their language careful. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said that all evidence in the case, including the glove, was being “submitted for analysis … as part of the investigative process.”

Investigators have warned neighbors that they should expect what officials called a “higher presence of law enforcement activity going forward” in the surrounding area. They emphasized that agents are continuing to “follow up on viable leads throughout the community … as more leads come in” about Nancy’s disappearance.

Another turning point came when FBI Director Kash Patel authorized the public release of surveillance footage captured in the early hours of the morning after Nancy was last seen. The video, recorded on a front door camera at Nancy’s home, shows an armed intruder entering the property.

In the footage, the suspect is covered in a jacket and gloves and walks with their head down. They are seen wearing a backpack and an apparent weapon holstered at their waistband. At one point, the person raises a fist toward the front door camera, then turns to look for something to block it. Investigators say the camera feed went dark at about 1:47 a.m. local time.

FBI Reveals a First Clear Picture

As the days have passed without Nancy found, the FBI has moved to sharpen the public’s picture of the person they say is responsible. In a detailed update shared by FBI Phoenix on X, agents revealed that the suspect is believed to be a man, approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build.

The bureau said the description came after a forensic analysis of the doorbell camera footage by its Operational Technology Division. In the post, officials explained that “new identifying details about the suspect in the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie have been confirmed” through the enhanced review.

One detail that stood out in the video was the suspect’s backpack. The FBI noted that the person appeared to be carrying a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack. It is a small but specific clue, one investigators hope might jog the memory of someone who crossed paths with that kind of pack in the Tucson area.

Federal agents also confirmed that the search has generated an extraordinary response. They said they have already received more than 13,000 tips from the public since Nancy was reported missing. Each of those messages, agents insisted, is being taken seriously.

“Every tip is reviewed for credibility, relevance, and information that can be acted upon by law enforcement,” the FBI wrote, explaining that Threat Intake Examiners at the National Threat Operations Center and FBI personnel are staffing a 24-hour command post. According to the bureau, “dozens of agents and investigators are assigned leads and tips to action each shift.”

The intensity of the effort has been matched by a dramatic increase in the financial reward on offer. At a press conference earlier in the month, officials announced an initial $50,000 reward for “information leading to the recovery of Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.”

Now, that reward has doubled. “Today, the FBI is increasing its reward up to $100,000 for information leading to the location of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance,” the bureau said in its latest public statement.

They closed that update with a direct appeal: “Continue to submit information to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or http://tips.fbi.gov to help us bring Nancy home.”

A Family Waiting, a Nation Watching

For viewers who know Savannah Guthrie as the calm center of “Today,” the details of her mother’s disappearance land with a particularly personal weight. Nancy has occasionally appeared in Savannah’s social media posts over the years, often smiling at family celebrations or birthday tributes that framed her as the heart of a close-knit clan.

Now those same platforms have become rallying points. Savannah and her siblings, Annie and Camron, have shared photos and videos pleading for help in finding their mother, urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to speak up. The images circulating online show the Guthrie children united, faces drawn but determined, as they ask the public to keep looking, keep calling, and keep Nancy in their prayers.

In one widely shared image, Savannah poses with Nancy, the two women cheek to cheek, a snapshot of ordinary joy that has taken on new meaning in light of the investigation. Nancy is not just a case number, not just the subject of an FBI bulletin. She is a mother, a grandmother, and a woman whose life stretches far beyond the crime scene tape now encircling her Tucson neighborhood.

For Gen X and Baby Boomer viewers who have grown up alongside Savannah’s rise in morning television, the story carries an almost familial echo. Many watched her celebrate career milestones, welcome her own children, and speak lovingly about the people who raised her. Seeing that private foundation shaken in such a public way underscores how sudden and disorienting loss can be, even for families accustomed to the spotlight.

Authorities have been careful not to speculate in front of cameras, focusing instead on the facts at hand and the practical work of canvassing, testing evidence, and sifting through thousands of digital tips. What they have made clear is that the case remains a top priority, with local deputies, federal agents, and forensic specialists all converging on the question of where Nancy is and who took her.

It is a question that now extends far beyond Tucson. As updates about the reward and suspect description spread across national news and social media, the search for Nancy has become one more thread in the larger story of how families, law enforcement, and the public intersect when a loved one goes missing. The stakes are deeply personal for the Guthries, but the call for vigilance and compassion reaches every viewer who sees their own mother, grandmother, or neighbor in Nancy’s face.

For now, the FBI’s message is simple and relentless. Keep watching. Keep remembering. Keep calling. Somewhere in those 13,000 tips, and the many still to come, agents hope there is one piece of information that will finally bring Nancy Guthrie home.
